Please, do tell me more about Fiction Fridays......
Excuse the dreadful pun, but I dreamed a meme and Fiction Fridays is its name. This is a concept that is going to feature on this blog on Fridays, starting November 11, 2011. It's something that I'm throwing open to all like-minded bloggers out there. Like books? Relish reading? Cool. This is going to be right up your street.
So, in a nutshell, this is.......
.... a celebration of the best books ever written for children. It's a cornucopia of kid-lit. It's about recognising and recording the family's favourites, it's about the stories that parents are pestered to read night after night. It's about building a collection, for you to look back upon and remember, and for others to use to compare notes and gather ideas of what are the best reads out there.
OK? But, well, what do I have to do? I'm a little busy here right now.....
That's the best bit, it takes no time at all. Each Friday, just take a photograph of a book that feels the most relevant at that particular time and post it on your blog. You might like to include the book's opening line in said post. I'll be jotting mine down in semi-legible handwriting on a postcard that'll feature alongside the book in the photograph. You might prefer to just type it into the blog post itself or, if you have lots of time, and lots of tinned pasta, you might like to spell it out in Alphabetti Spaghetti. I'll leave the method to personal choice.
Sounds interesting but could you give me an example, I'm a little slow on the uptake here.....
Not a problem. I've mocked one up just for you. Nice isn't it?
Yes, lovely. So that's it? That's all I need to do?
Pretty much, although as with all the best memes, you might like to tell some of your best blogging friends and perhaps invite them to take part. I've asked five of my favourite blog writers to have a go. I'm sure they'll not let me down. Maybe you could pick your own five, tag them like young offenders and set them the challenge.
It sounds so simple. You're sure there's absolutely nothing else involved?
Nope. Not a sausage.....although, now that you ask.....You might want to mention @homedad and perhaps include a link, but its not a legal requirement. I've also created a rather spiffing badge that I'll be using beneath each Fiction Fridays post. It'd be nice if you could use it too, although don't feel obliged, it's not a biggie.
Here it is now, I've even created the HTML code for you to cut and paste into your own blog. Never let it be said that I don't do anything for you!
Um, what's this gobbledegook here? Please start paying attention, this is the HTML code I've just been telling you about...... <a href="http://tamingtoddlers.blogspot.com/p/fiction-fridays.html"><img src="http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee450/superpaul75/badge.png" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></a>
You're sure that's all, now?
Erm, I think so. Let's see....choose a book? Check. Photograph it? Check. Include the opening line? Check. Tell your friends? Check. Use the badge (maybe, perhaps, hope so)? Check. Oh yes, you could send a link to Twitter and maybe include a hash tag. How's about #fictionfridays? That'd seem to work. You could also include a link to this here page, it'd save you having to explain it to your friends in great detail. Here it is now, for you to cut and paste: http://goo.gl/Fq1Or. You see, I've done all the hard work for you.OK, I'll do it.
Great! I look forward to seeing your posts. Don't forget now, from this point on, they're not just Fridays, they're Fiction Fridays!
The Fiction Fridays Collection is here.
